Regional workshop on the “Hybrid” HIMA approach
Nature protection makes use of a traditional system.
This regional workshop took place in Istanbul, Turkey from the 14th to the 16th April 2011.

Wetlands remains low in the political agenda
A mission to Syria by the MWO team was held between 6 and 14 March 2011. Centered around the development of the Mediterranean Wetlands Observatory (i.e. evaluation of the situation and needs in terms of wetland monitoring), this visit also helped assessing in broader terms the wetland context in Syria and key needs regarding wetlands.

MedWet is a Regional Initiative for the Ramsar Convention on wetlands. It is a partnership of twenty-seven Mediterranean countries, wetland centres, intergovernmental organisations and international, environmental NGO’s. The Mediterranean Wetlands Observatory is a unique monitoring and evaluation system, based on a broad partnership. The Tour du Valat has been mandated by MedWet to develop this observatory and to catalyze the partnership.
