Mediterranean Wetlands: generous ecosystems that are greatly threatened by human activities
- MWO’s film – 10’
For the launch of the report and its synthesis « Mediterranean wetlands – Outlook – 2012 », the MWO also produced a 10 minute-film showing the main results and key messages on this geneorus ecosystem that is threatened by human activities. The film was broadcast during the International symposium on water and we  tlands, held in Agadir, Morocco, in February 2012.

Earth Observation technology at the service of wetland protection
Sentinel 2 and GlobWetlandII meetings.
The use of EO technology in combination with innovative geo-spatial analysis can greatly assist wetland conservation and management. MedWet attended the Sentinel 2 preparatory Symposium, a new satellite that would provide better quality data and additional capacity for water quality monitoring. It also attended the GlobWetlandII consulting partners’ strategic meeting which aimed to advise the project on technical and policy issues and strategies for training and dissemination of material and system software.

Serbia's wetlands and the new Ramsar Wetland of International Importance
Interview by Nikola Stojnic from the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia
Serbia's Department for Protection of Nature and Biodiversity, Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, with the assistance of the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia, has designated Koviljsko-Petrovaradinski Rit as the country's tenth Wetland of International Importance. We took this opportunity to ask Mr Nikola Stojnic from the Institute for Nature Conservation of Serbia some questions on Serbia’s wetlands

10th MedWet Steering Group
Preparation for the 11th meeting of the Mediterranean Wetlands Committee 
The MedWet Steering Group met for its tenth meeting in Paris, France on the 29th and 30th of March 2012. The meeting was focused on reporting the MedWet Secretariat activities in relation to the 2011 workplan, approving the financial report and future budget and capitalizing on the Agadir Symposium. Another important aspect was the organization of the 11th Meeting of the Mediterranean Wetlands Committee (MedWet/Com11) which will take place on the 5th July in Bucharest, Romania.

Meeting of the World Wetland Network representatives
Preparation for the Ramsar COP11 and the role of civil society in wetland protection
The World Wetland Network (WWN) is a network of small to medium NGOs and civil society groups that undertake wetland conservation, protection or public awareness activities. Recently, a core group of WWN continental and regional representatives got together in Northern Spain, with the support of Birdlife Spain, and the Spanish Government to discuss the issues facing the civil society sector, ways to promote the role of local people in wetland conservation and to prepare for the Ramsar COP11.

Mediterranean wetlands: focus on biodiversity!
 
MWO launches a new thematic collection. The aim is to deep the analysis of the results observed through the indicators of the Observatory. The first issue will deal with Biodiversity: status and trends of species in Mediterranean wetlands.

Which themes and indicators for MWO?
MWO and its partners have defined four themes and have selected twenty-five indicators to cover both the status of wetlands, the causes and pressures on them, the impact on human well-being and the possible responses to save them.  Seventeen indicators have really been monitored.

Call for communication of the « Wetlands History group »
Seminar «Mediterranean wetlands yesterday and today", 20-22 September 2012
In the framework of this international seminar, to come in Italy (Padoue) in next September, the « Wetlands History group » call for communication proposals. The deadline to apply is postponed to 30 May 2012.

PARTNERS OF THE OBSERVATORY

MedWet is a Regional Initiative for the Ramsar Convention on wetlands. It is a partnership of twenty-seven Mediterranean countries, wetland centres, intergovernmental organisations and international, environmental NGO’s. The Mediterranean Wetlands Observatory is a unique monitoring and evaluation system, based on a broad partnership. The Tour du Valat has been mandated by MedWet to develop this observatory and to catalyze the partnership
